FOR NON-AGRICULTURAL USE ONLY
What Is INSECTA?
INSECTA is a latex insecticidal coating created specifically for use on the manhole walls of ENCLOSED SANITARY SEWER SYSTEMS ONLY for the control of sewer manhole cockroach populations.
INSECTA is an intricately formulated, high quality, latex paint in which chlorpyrifos is impregnated within polymers.
INSECTA is fully manufactured and containerized in an EPA-approved facility.
INSECTA is proven and manufacturer-guaranteed to be effective up to 24 months following application per label instructions.
Active Ingredient: Chlorpyrifos .86% (less than 1%)
Inert Ingredients: 99.14%
Studies by an independent laboratory (Legend Technical Services, Inc.), the City of Scottsdale, Arizona, and the County Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County have proven that on the day of spraying INSECTA on sewer manhole walls and up to 3 days following treatment, there were non-detectable amounts of chlorpyrifos in the downstream treatment plant nearest to the treated manholes.
How Does INSECTA Work?
Cockroaches, like most insects, have specialized feet. A combination of stiff hairs, natural adhesives, and tiny, sharp claws at the ends of an insect’s feet allow them to scale vertical surfaces. As cockroaches rest on or scale the INSECTA painted walls of sewer manholes, these specialized feet break the polymer chain holding the chlorpyrifos, exposing the chemical. The exposed chlorpyrifos adheres to the cockroach and is ingested when the cockroach licks its feet. Typically, the cockroach will die within 24 hours. Because the cockroaches die so quickly, they have no opportunity to breed an immunity to INSECTA.
Why Use INSECTA?
Enclosed sanitary sewer systems are a perfect breeding ground for cockroaches. There are lateral lines running off these enclosed systems to homes and businesses. It is through these lateral lines that cockroaches can enter homes and businesses carrying all sorts of bacteria and disease. Using INSECTA on the sewer manhole walls significantly reduces the cockroach population, protecting homes and businesses.
- INSECTA is a United States EPA-approved formulation.
- INSECTA is a latex coating, not a solvent or powder that can easily be washed away. Once dried, INSECTA will remain on the sewer manhole walls and retain its 2-year guaranteed efficacy regardless of weather conditions.
- INSECTA eliminates chemical exposure to city employees and residents.
- INSECTA is manufactured in a United States EPA-approved facility.
- INSECTA is not a repellant; cockroaches don’t run to escape INSECTA.
- INSECTA helps to prevent the spread of disease
- INSECTA interrupts the breeding cycle of cockroaches, eliminating both adult and juvenile cockroaches
- INSECTA leaves a clean, bright, washable surface.
- INSECTA makes sewer manhole inspections easier for city employees.
Why Treat Sewer Manholes With INSECTA?
-
Sewer manholes are a haven for cockroaches providing an endless supply of food and water.
-
Sewers contain fecal matter, which carries disease
-
Cockroaches walk and rest on sewer fecal matter and are capable of transmitting bacteria and disease.
-
Cockroaches exit manholes through the pick holes and cracks in the manhole cover lids and gaps where the lid seats down and traverse lateral lines between the sewers and residential and commercial structures carrying fecal bacteria and disease into homes and businesses.
-
Cockroaches are difficult to control once in your citizens’ homes. Best to control before accessing homes or businesses.
-
Cockroaches climb sewer manhole walls, often congregating on the upper 4-5 feet of the manhole wall and around the ring just below the sewer manhole cover
-
Cockroaches are kown to spread six kinds of human pathogens, and 33 kinds of bacteria, including but not limited to:
-
Per doctors in China, COVID-19 can be spread through fecal matter.

Diarrhea

Dysentery

Applying INSECTA
- INSECTA must be applied by a licensed Pest Control Operator in accordance with all label instructions.
- INSECTA is applied via airless paint spray equipment using a 6 to 6 ½ foot wand equipped with a 4-head spray nozzle.
- INSECTA is sprayed on sewer manhole walls by moving the spray wand up and down to a depth up to 8 feet (regardless of the actual manhole depth) applying the EPA-approved amount of product to the manhole walls. If the manhole is less than 8-feet deep, treat the full depth of the manhole.
- INSECTA is not applied to the top 10 - 12 inches of the manhole walls, eliminating any risk of drift or overspray on the concrete or road surfaces near the manhole.
- INSECTA label prohibits application within 36 hours of predicted rain to avoid any product run-off.
City Application Cycle
Cities contracting with a licensed Pest Control Operator typically provide a 4-year contract to have all their sewer manholes sprayed in a standardized, 2-year rotation.
Year 1
Half of the contracted sewer manholes are sprayed the first year.
Year 2
Remaining half of the contracted sewer manholes are sprayed the 2nd year.
Year 3
Sewer manholes sprayed in Year 1 are re-sprayed in the same order as year 1.
Year 4
Sewer manholes sprayed in Year 2 are re-sprayed in the same order as Year 2.
This standardized 2-year rotation allows all treated sewer manholes to be under the 2-year manufacturer warranty for the duration of the contract.
Cities may request a slightly tinted paint color for years 3 and 4, providing an easy check to ensure all sewer manholes have been properly treated.
